On November 4, 2025, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) conducted a raid at Allston Car Wash in Boston, detaining nine immigrant employees.
Three days later, on November 7, Zac Segal, president of the Boston University (BU) College Republicans (BUCR), publicly claimed credit on X (formerly Twitter) for repeatedly tipping off ICE about the workers, whom he described as “criminals” taking “American jobs.”
This sparked widespread backlash, including outrage from community members, BU student groups, and online activists who accused Segal of racism and xenophobia.
By November 13-14, reports emerged of escalating tensions on BU’s campus, including flyers labeling Segal a “racist fascist,” threats to the BUCR organization, and social media calls to “hunt him down,” prompting the relocation of a BUCR event due to safety concerns.
While some right-leaning accounts framed this as a literal “manhunt” by liberal students targeting conservatives, evidence suggests it is more accurately described as heated online doxxing, protests, and harassment rather than organized physical pursuit.
BU has not publicly responded to the targeting of its students, and Segal has defended his actions as patriotic.
